ELD 204 Nursing Dress

June 2003

I started my sewing experience with trying to make a nursing dress for myself. I used some fabric that I had for years, but really didn't like. It was basically the only summer fabric I had. I figured it would make a good "trial dress".

I tried a pattern from Elizabeth Lee Designs. Even though it didn't turn out too bad for a first dress, I soon found out that I would have to learn to make large adjustments of patterns, so that they would actually fit me.

So, here is ELD #204 in a flowery version. The neckline is way too low for my taste and gaps. I cut out size 14-16, but later had to take the side seams in.

If I would make this dress, I would have to choose a smaller size and do a FBA (full bust adjustment).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things I have learned:

~ I can not choose dress size acoording to full bust, since my bust is larger than average. It's wiser to choose according to high bust and or acoording to my frame.

~ I need to measure necklines before cutting it out, it will save me some headaches in the future

~ I need to make sleeves shorter or longer. Where they are right now, they are optically making me even wider (since they are in the same horizontal line with my full bust).
