The Blue Corduroy Elastic Skirt

(January 2005)

This is an UFO (unfinished object =) from last winter. I finally finished it. I took a straight skirt pattern that I had made before and just left the darts unsewn. I am not sure this is the right thing to do, but didn't want it to be gathered too much. I added a few cm on the top, made a casing from the inside out of a thin lining material and put in a wide elastic.

I just made a simple slit in the back, but the skirt is so narrow, that I think the slit needs to be even larrger. I probably should change that before it rips.

There is one bad thing about this skirt and that is a line on the front left side. I do not know if it's a factory mistake or just from being folded for two years. I tried to wash it several times, but it doesn't want to go away. So, I just will not care about it and wear it anyway.

The corduroy is a bit stiff, but it's a very nice skirt.

Things I have learned:

~ think before making a very long straight skirt, it's hard to walk in it

~ inspect the fabric well from the right side before cutting it (there may be mistakes on it)

~ when machine sewing a hem, make sure that you actually catch the fabric underneath and that it' not too close to the seam (on this skirt it looked fine to me, but after the first wash, the hem got undone at several places)

Actively sewing since
