The Blue Twin Set

(November 2004)

I have finished my blue twin set. I used a pattern from a German pattern magazine Diana that I borrowed from a friend.

I used a blue sweather knit that I had in my stash. It wasn't hard to sew, but I didn't anticipate a few problems. The major one being that the fabric hardly has any recovery. I decided to bind the necklines with a strip of crosscut self fabric, but to turn it to the inside and top-stitch. While it looks very nice, it actually made the stretching worse.

In addition to this the actual pattern had very fitted sleeves, but because of how the knit behaved, they ended up being dropped sleeves.

Yet, it's a great set and I am really pleased.

Things I have learned:

~ with fabrics like these, adjust patttern for stretch factor

~ bind the neckline with a non-stretchy band next time

~ I don't like these very high fitted sleeves, but I don't like dropped sleeves either. I will have to find some kind milddle ground next time.
