The Pink Shirred Top

May 2005

This is a wearable muslin for a front-shirred top I wanted to make for a while. I am not really fond of the bright color, although I know it does look good on me =). It's a firm knit with not much stretch.

I wanted to try another pattern, so I chose a darted knit top I had (Easy Mccalls' 4056) and rotated the dart to the center. I used a size
14 (smallest on my pattern) but knew the shoulders would be too big, so I folded the pattern in the center a bit. I also changed the
neckline and hem. I didn't do a FBA, but probably should have done.

It came out pretty nice, although I do not like the sleeves. The armscye is too deep and restricts movement. On the other hand the sleeve cap is too high. I will have to work on this. I bound the neckline with FOE and for the first time it came out pretty good. I used a double needle and applied it in on process. I could have stretched it a bit more.

Things I have learned:

~ to apply FOE (fold-over elastic)

~ to rotate the side dart to the center

~ that I have to change the sleeves to a smaller sleeve cap
